Chastain Park

Nestled in the heart of the Buckhead district, the neighborhood of Chastain Park is easily one of Atlanta’s most desirable places to live. Home to the 268-acre city park that shares its name, this community boasts sprawling homes on wooded lots along winding streets, easy access to shopping and dining, excellent schools and plenty of things to see and do, all within minutes of downtown Atlanta.

HISTORY

The origin of what is now Chastain Park comes more recently in Atlanta’s history, when then-Fulton County Commissioner Troy Green Chastain began overseeing county development in the 1940s. The original 1,000-acre plot was subdivided, with the western part sold for luxury home and business development, and the eastern part preserved to become what is now Chastain Memorial Park, Atlanta’s largest city park. The City of Atlanta annexed most of Fulton County in 1952, making this neighborhood and park an official part of the city. Nowadays, Chastain Park remains one of the city’s most coveted Intown communities.

SCHOOLS

Chastain Park lies within the Atlanta Public School district, with local schools testing above the state average. This neighborhood is also home to The Galloway School, located on park grounds, one of several prestigious private schools in the area.

Understandably, the centerpiece of the community is Chastain Memorial Park itself, which offers an abundance of outdoor activities, including tennis, swimming, jogging paths, a golf course, playgrounds and a horse park. Also on park grounds rests the Chastain Arts Center and Gallery, offering classes and exhibits throughout the year. The famed Chastain Park Amphitheatre sits at the northwest corner of the park, a 6,900-seat venue hosting concerts by major touring artists during the spring and summer months, as well as performances by the Atlanta Symphony. The neighborhood itself is largely residential, but popular shopping and dining options can be found within a few minutes’ drive in all directions.

HOMES IN CHASTAIN PARK

An affluent community of mostly larger homes and lots, Chastain Park includes some of Atlanta’s most valuable real estate, with median home values exceeding $1 million, and actual home prices ranging from the mid-$800s to over $4.5 million.
